In this wordplay animation,
Amos, who's from the south,
has prophesied at Bethel, in the north
The priest, Amaziah, doesn't like it,
and shoots his mouth at Amos!
Seer!
Go!
Flee for yourself!
Eat your bread at home!
Prophesy there!
[AMOS TRANSFORMS INTO A METALLIC WALL]
Don't shoot your mouth at a metallic wall!
[THE PRIEST'S WORDS SPARK AND RICOCHET OFF OF AMOS,
WHO HAS TRANSFORMED INTO A METAL WALL,
AND TRANSFORM INTO CURSES]
Your wife will be a prostitute!
Your children will fall by the sword!
Your land will be apportioned!
And you will die on an unclean land
[THE NARRATOR EXPLAINS THE DYNAMIC]
The priest's words, like arrows,
ricochet off of Amos,
who transformed into a metallic wall!
Amaziah's nasty words transform too,
and come back to him, flaming!
'Seer' turns into 'prostitute'
'Flee' turns into 'fall'
'Bread' turns into 'land'
And 'prophesy' turns into 'die'
The wordplays are conceptual
'Seer' means 'you're a fake!'
'You're just trying to make money immorally'
For saying that, the priest's wife
will become a prostitute
And you can hear the wordplays in Hebrew...
Hozeh = Seer
And tizneh = she will be a prostitute
The wordplay is part of a larger
chiastic wordplay,
which is part of Amos's Third Vision,
which is another wordplay!
